Do You Drink Enough Water?

I am not a doctor, none of the information on any of these pages pertaining to the Ketogenic Diet/Way of Eating should be considered medical advice and should not replace the care of your personal physician I am simply eager to share the information I have learned while on my own journey to health. Before you embark on this journey, please consult with your physician.

We've always been told: 8 8-ounce glasses of water a day.

The first question is: Do you even know how much water you drink each day?

Oh - and your coffee doesn't count!

That stinks, I know.

Fact is: for every caffeinated drink, you need to add an extra 8-ounce glass of water. Eeeek!!!

But is 8 8-ounce glasses of water a day truly scientific?

Well.......yes and no.

8 8-ounce glasses may be a good start, but depending on your height and weight, you may need even more water than THAT!

Here is a calculator to help you discover how much water you should be drinking everyday.

But why is water so important?

  • It helps to detoxify our bodies.
  • It helps improve our kidney function.
  • It helps give us energy.
  • It helps keep our skin hydrated.
  • It helps keep migraines and headaches away.
  • It helps keep our digestive systems working like they should.

So - be sure you get adequate water everyday. Especially if your increasing your fat intake and decreasing your carb intake!!

You'll know you've had enough water when your urine is nearly clear. The more yellow your urine, the more dehydrated you are. If your urine has a strong color, you need to drink more water.
Water and unsweetened herbal tea.

Sugary, caffeinated, and carbonated drinks do not count toward your water intake.
