Out of frustration with my health and weight, I once again embarked on yet another diet. Little did I know that this diet would quickly turn into a new way of eating, it would lead me to research and study the science behind it, and I would spend hours listening to podcasts about it.
The Ketogenic Diet.
You've probably heard of it - it's all the latest craze.
Thing is, I'm not a band-wagon sort of gal. In fact, I tend to run from bandwagons and hype. When I started the Ketogenic Diet, I didn't know it was a fad, I was just looking for something to help me.
And it did.
Soon I began to discover a few things....
Society marginalizes and punishes diabetics and obese people; we point the finger at them and say, "If you'd just show a little self-control, you wouldn't be the way you are." Science, however, shows that they are the way they are because something biologically doesn't work.
It's mostly genetic.
And it's insulin.
Insulin makes you fat. Don't believe me? Just begin giving yourself some insulin shots and you'll start putting on weight like crazy. Combine that with the diet we've all been told by experts that is a balanced diet - a high-carb diet - and you'll be hungry every couple of hours, constantly craving comfort, carb-laden food.
This has little to do with self-control and much to do with science.
Once an obese, diabetic person cuts out the carbs and lowers their insulin levels, something very magical happens: they begin to lose weight, sometimes rapidly, and their cravings disappear. Not only that, many other chronic issues start clearing up: like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, skin eruptions, chronic fatigue, adrenal fatigue, and more...
